My mother is a big fan of Italian music.
In the late 80s, the song of Italian singer Francesco Napoli (Napolitano) “Marina” was very popular. When I was just a kid, different songs of this artist were played in our house. Mom was in love with the Italian culture. And, of course, from my earliest childhood, she tried to tell me that this music is fun, light, and very kind. I was 6 years old and we sang together:
“Marina, Marina, Marina. Ti voglio al piu’ presto sposar…”
Of course, I did not know the translation! 🙂 I was amused that the song is about me. I sang to the children in the kindergarten:
“Marina, Marina, Marina. I want to marry you as soon as possible…”
It was very funny!
At the age of 17, I found a video of this artist on the Internet. And you know, he is a very charismatic and emotional man. A real Italian. I studied his biography.
Francesco was born in Naples, a very beautiful city on the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. At a young age, he won a local contest of artists and began to move into the world of great music. In 1986, there was a big breakthrough. Francesco became very popular in Italy, Spain, and France. In Russia, his popularity was at its peak in the 90s. It was the single “Marina”, which many Russian singers chanted, that became a hit for Francesco.
Now, when I hear this song, I return to that carefree childhood time.
What are your favourite all-time artists?
